Earth Day Presentation at the Field Museum,April, 1999
In the Spring of 1999, our Environmental Science
club was asked to make a presentation at the "Yes, in
my backyard" event at the Field Museum of Chicago.
Quite a few schools sent representatives that day
and it was nice to see so many other kids involved in
environmental issues like we are.

We decided to talk about starting a school garden
because it has been such a place of learning for us at
our school. Our 7th & 8th grade students helped
design a Power Point presentation that showed the
step-by-step process for planting a garden (see our
link below to learn how to do it for your own home
or school).

After the Power Point presentation, we gave
everyone in our audience the chance to plant their
own wild flower seeds in a pot of soil to take home.
In all modesty, our students were a big hit with
everyone! We were even asked to give our
presentation a second time because so many people
had heard how great it was...

Needless to say, we enjoyed the experience and look
forward to participating in the year 2000 event.
(We've already been asked back as presenters, and
we have planned to discuss pond water as a topic.
Watch for updates on this event coming soon!!)
